Job overview
we are seeking a competent, flexible cook for our nursery and community café. for the nursery you must be able to plan and prepare nutritious, balanced meals for children aged [0–5 years]. for the community café, you must be able to produce simple snack meals, lunchtime specials, sandwiches to eat in and take away and so on. we are also looking for an employee capable of developing our café menu and undertaking food ordering from online wholesalers (tesco, asda or ocado).
key responsibilities
[nursery] plan and prepare fresh, balanced meals and snacks in line with current nutritional guidelines for young children.
[nursery] cater for special dietary requirements, allergies, and cultural preferences.
[nursery] promote healthy eating by introducing a variety of foods and seasonal menus.
[nursery] work collaboratively with nursery management and staff to support children’s wellbeing.
[nursery] engage positively with children to encourage good eating habits.
[café] cook simple snack meals (sausage butties, beans on toast etc) to order, prepare a seasonal lunchtime special and sandwiches to eat in or takeaway
[both] maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and kitchen safety at all times. this will require the nursery chef to clear all used plates, dishes, cups, beakers and cutlery and place in the dishwasher; to do the same for all items used in preparing and cooking food; to return cleaned and dry items to their proper place; to wipe down and clean surfaces in line with regulations; and to do all this before finishing work for the day.
[both] manage food ordering, stock control, and budget effectively.
[both] ensure compliance with food safety regulations, including maintaining accurate records (temperature logs, cleaning schedules, allergy lists).
