About the Role
We reserve the right to close vacancies earlier than the specified date should we receive sufficient applications. If interested, please complete an application as early as possible.

Be part of a comprehensive highway’s inspection team, that will ensure Liverpool’s highways are safe and hazard free. Inspect Liverpool’s highways and assets reporting any defects or hazards to ensure repairs are completed quickly and effectively. Be part of a team that has an impact on maintaining a hazard-free network for all road and highway users.

Liverpool City Council has embarked on a major improvement programme that involves all parts of the organisation. Transport & Highways is especially focussed on delivering an improvement programme that will elevate Liverpool’s highways to a standard expected in a leading UK city.

As part of the Inspection team you will play a pivotal role working to ensure defects are minimised but when they do occur you will take action to ensure they are repaired in a timely manner. You will undertake these activities during weekdays, but also at weekends on a rota basis as well as attending emergency situations when required.

This is a role for someone with ambition, who is a self-starter and takes their responsibilities seriously. You will report to the Reactive Maintenance Manager. You will spend most of your time out on the highway but will work from the office base when appropriate.

This is a unique opportunity to join an organisation on an improvement journey that will provide the opportunity for you to play a key part in its delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

Undertake walked & driven highway inspections to ensure they conform to the Highways Act 1980 and the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991.
Raise works orders as a result of undertaking Section 58 and other ad hoc inspections. Check that works are carried out to the required standard in line with Council policy.
Respond and investigate defects in response requests raised by members of the public
Assist with providing evidence to support the Council in defending third party claims
Use computer and handheld devices to assist you in performing your duties effectively
If you are ready for your next challenge, apply now.

If you would like to talk to a member of the team about the role or have an informal discussion, please contact Dorothy Joyce, Dorothy.joyce@liverpool.gov.uk or call 07925 358450

Please note that in accordance with the Council’s policy, employees who are in a formal redeployment situation will be considered in the first instance for all vacancies.

We advise you save the job description and person specification on your own device (e.g. laptop, tablet, mobile), as once the closing date has passed they will not be accessible.
