The Role
Mersey Port Health Authority is currently undergoing an expansion of its service and have a number of vacancies available; the Authority is looking to recruit eight (8) Regulatory Support Officers for a fixed period of 6 months. This is for a time specific project this is due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic and preparation to ensure the Authority’s readiness for additional sanitary controls at the end of the EU transition, has substantially increased the workload associated with delivering the Authority’s statutory functions.

The Authority is at the front line of food safety, animal and public health control, the role will offer you a mixture of both office-based functions such as the checking and processing of import documentation as well as out of office functions such as examination and sampling of foodstuffs.  You will have the opportunity to work under your own initiative but also with others as a team.

The ideal candidate must be highly organised and comfortable working under pressure, which includes making decisions.  Excellent communication is essential along with the ability to work as part of a team.  IT proficiency and familiarity with Microsoft applications are desirable.

The main duties of the post include:

Provide support to Port Health Officers/Official Veterinarians at the Border Control Post when required.
Provide administrative support functions
Use and maintenance of accurate records, systems and databases/spreadsheets
Assist in carrying out identity/physical and sampling relating to imported food
