Rachel has always dreamed of working in a childcare setting and began approaching local schools for voluntary experience. At the same time she discovered Liverpool Mutual Homes’ (LMH) Volunteers Into Placement programme (VIP). Rachel secured a voluntary placement with Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School and was accepted on the VIP programme which is open to LMH residents. She undertook 10 weeks of workshops and 12 weeks of voluntary work as part of the programme. Rachel worked alongside her mentor Anita Dixon and the LMH VIP, Liverpool Mutual in Work and Liverpool in Work teams to prepare for an interview to secure a paid placement. Her previous interview had been a nerve wracking experience and she welcomed the support. Rachel was successful at interview and officially started in June 2016
‘I love the LMH VIP programme and Anita is fabulous, she has supported me right through the programme and helped me create a record of my achievements which I can now present to future employers. I felt much more confident having had interview support from the Liverpool in Work business team and this helped me secure the 6 month paid placement’.
Louise Roberts, Deputy Head from Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School says;
’ We are delighted to be working in partnership with LMH to support Rachel on the VIP programme. As a school we are committed to the development of all and to the community we serve. This opportunity has enabled us to support Rachel as she develops her skills in working as a member of our school staff and her knowledge of the role of a teaching assistant’.
Angela Forshaw, Executive Director (Operations), LMH says:
‘’Through our community investment work, LMH has tried hard to improve life chances and outcomes for our tenants. The VIP programme is a tremendous success as demonstrated by Rachel’s experience. It has also allowed LMH staff, like Anita, to shine and really make a difference’’.
