Josh had previously worked in a call centre and wanted a career in science before joining the NHS Traineeship. In October 2017 Josh attended an information session at Liverpool Royal Hospital and after an interview with the LCL team he was offered a place on the programme. Josh completed 5 weeks of employability and 8 weeks placement in Point of Care and Haematology at Liverpool Clinical Laboratories. During this time, Josh was supported with funding from Liverpool in Work for Scrubs and bus pass and bursary from Wirral MET College.
After the traineeship was complete Josh was given a bank link and in September 2018 Josh started fulltime on Liverpool Royal Hospital Staff Bank.
I want to say a massive thank you to Dave and the team in LCL, Michele and the team at Wirral MET College and Emma and the team at Liverpool in Work. Since starting on the bank I have been working in specimen reception and archiving as well as supporting with the collection of slides and requests at Aintree Hospital’s LCL departments. I feel like the job opportunity has matured me as I can’t rely on other people as I did on placement and I have to be attentive when carrying out my job. In the future I would like to find a permanent full time position as an Medical Laboratory Assistant but to be honest I will do anything that is science based.
