Success Story

Business Product/Activity.

In April 2013 H2 Energy were looking to open its factory in Liverpool and required support in the recruitment of its staff. H2 Energy is engineering based, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and project management company. They work in collaboration with clients to support local and site based energy security from organic waste, converting it into renewable energy. This energy can be electrical, heat or converted in a patented process into bio-methane for transport or fuel gas. 

It was essential that we recruited the right candidates for the company and Bill Shotton (CEO) was keen to ensure the majority of its staff was to come from the local area. The first priority was to create job descriptions, person specifications and application forms for each of the key management roles.  The positions were then marketed and application packs sent out. All returned application forms were then sifted against criteria and part of the sift was a short telephone interview. Successful candidates were then selected for interview.

Interview rooms were sourced by Liverpool in Work and a member of the Business team sat on the interview panel to offer support.  Liverpool in work also provided support in developing a recruitment and selection policy and continues to support the business with any recruitment/funding support

Support received.

The specific support given was full HR recruitment and selection process to a company that was moving into Liverpool without any staff and little knowledge of the area and funding that was available to support and build the capacity of the business. 

This support was essential because H2 Energy did not have a Personnel Department and were totally reliant on LIW to provide this function.

Liverpool in Work provided offices and a base for H2 Energy to conduct interviews prior to their new factory opening.


To date H2 Energy employ 45 people. These people are mostly in management, design, IT Systems and projects.  The Company now has a 2-3 year order book, valued at £45 million and has commenced a new recruitment initiative for another 20 personnel. There will be in manufacturing.
