Charleigh had been working casual at Liverpool football Club Hospitality before becoming unemployed and seeing the NHS Traineeship vacancy at a Job Club. Charleigh had also had 3 months work experience in the health sector and had always wanted to work in a hospital. Charleigh had been responsible for looking after the children on Alder Hey’s wards when she completed her my work experience. Charleigh had completed health and social care level 1-2 and also a Society Health and Development Diploma in school.
Charleigh attended an Information session at Liverpool Royal Hospital in October 2017 and was offered a place on the programme. In November 2017 Charleigh commenced 5 weeks of employability delivered by Wirral MET College which included input from Liverpool Clinical teams and the Royal Learning and Development team. Charleigh was given a mock interview from the employer and had to provide identification documents and attend an Occupational health check. Charleigh was offered a Liverpool Clinical Laboratories placement and completed an 8-week placement within Virology and H&I. At the end of the placement, Charleigh attended a celebration event where she was presented with certificates achieved on the course. In April 2018 Charleigh was offered a full time LCL Bank Staff opportunity. Charleigh had to complete the NHS application process and submit references covering 3 years using training and experiences gained throughout the training programme and placement. Since June 2018 Charleigh has been working on the Royal Hospital’s NHS Medical Laboratory Bank in Immunology.
Charleigh says; it took a while to get onto bank as the process was lengthy but once I started my first shift I was given a block of 3-4 months in Immunology and I have worked full time since. I am happy to remain on Bank until a permanent position comes along and I can progress onto an Apprenticeship which will help me to gain qualifications while I work. I would like to say a massive thank you for the opportunity to Dave and the Liverpool Clinical Laboratories team, Michele and Wirral MET College and Emma and the team at Liverpool in Work.
